Reflexology is a holistic treatment based on the Chinese Traditional Medicine (CTM) principle that certain areas on the soles of your feet (known as meridians or reflex zones), contain nerve endings that map via the nervous system to corresponding parts of the body. Basically, a map of your whole body on your feet*. Each foot being half of the map.
Whilst Acupuncture focuses on points along these Meridians on the body and stimulates them with needles, Reflexology focuses on the Meridians in the feet, and works on them using finger pressure. When pressure is applied to these areas, it stimulates the movement of energy along the nerve channels and helps to restore homeostasis (balance) to the whole body.
Briefly, there are twelve major meridians that run on both sides of the body, each side mirroring the other. In general these channels are named after the organs that they relate to. It’s like an energy superhighway, a web of subtle pathways that penetrate and interconnect each cell of your body, influencing your mental and emotional states.
I specialise in Precision Reflexology – a more advanced form of Reflexology – connecting with the client on an energetic level, linking both the body systems and these energy meridians together, to work more precisely on individual clients.
All our body parts and functions are intricately interrelated. Imbalances in one area may give rise to symptoms in another. These can manifest on a physical or emotional level, or both. In a treatment we work together on any energy blocks and imbalances. Treating the body and mind as one interconnected whole.
I use my own techniques formed as a result of studying many different healing modalities, including Reiki, combined with a biomedical science degree and a lifelong interest and study in complementary therapies.
I can also treat a frozen shoulder and other painful conditions where you have limited mobility. I find initial treatment with reflexology is more effective than massage. 9x out of 10 you will get substantial movement back with only one treatment.
You won’t care how I did it, just that I did.
*There are 100’s of Reflexology Foot maps online. You will notice that there will be some differences between them. This is because everyone wants their own foot map and so has to be slightly different to copyright it.
